Visual Resources Coordinator (PT)

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Visual Resources Coordinator (VRC) has two main objectives: technical and pedagogical. This position involves database management and image editing, but also faculty liaison and instructional responsibilities. As such, it requires both technical know how as well as a specific art and art history background.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Database Management:
- Scan images while maintaining integrity of the artwork being recorded. Represent the image accurately in the scan.
- Edit images using relevant software (such as Photoshop).
- Upload relevant images into the Luna database including transcription and identifying information.
- Research image specifics to insure correct data within metadata fields including artists, artistic styles, style periods, (etc) through use of Library resources and collaboration with expert faculty.
- Import metadata into the Luna template system according to prevailing metadata standards and fixed language.
- Address maintenance and back-end issues with the database. Liaise with vendor via a variety of media.
- Locate and retrieve relevant print resources for scan of requested images within our collection or by virtue of native library resources or via InterLibrary Loan services.
Instructional Support:
- Liaise with Art and Art History faculty to present Luna seminars that support individual class learning objectives. These are in-house seminars using a variety of presentation styles and tools.
- Work with Art faculty to innovate new ways that the Luna database could support student success.
- Expand the Luna database to departments and functions other than and in addition to Art classes.
Staff Management:
- Supervise Graduate Assistants and Work Study students
REQUIREMENTS:
- Art or Art History BA from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated understanding of image databases (such as ARTstor). Experience with LUNA preferred
- Experience in teaching or in delivering presentations
- Demonstrated understanding of image quality standards, experience in photography required
- Demonstrated experience with image editing software suites (such as Photoshop)
- Demonstrated ability to manage a small staff effectively
- Demonstrated ability to establish a rapport and work effectively with faculty, students, vendors, and library staff
- An understanding of image metadata standards preferred
