Artwork Highlights from refract Exhibition at Albany Center Gallery!

Take a look at some close-up shots of artwork by Trevor Wilson, Naomi Lewis, Benjamin Jose, Royal Brown, and Owen Barensfeld!

Sampler: Hive Dance 2 & Sampler: Bullseye by Naomi Lewis

“Lewis captures and holds small moments in time within quiet processes, speaking to a notion of humility reflected in the ephemeral nature of her chosen materials.”

Line of Divide by Benjamin Jose

“Recent work by Benjamin Jose endeavors to revise visual and conceptual language through the careful arrangement of recognizable objects in ways that negate their utilities and related activities.”

Makyo by Trevor Wilson

These grids are what the artist calls ‘psychic architectures,’ which use symmetry as a method to convey single moments of time and tensions between ‘perfect’ and ‘imperfect.'”

Message 2 by Royal Brown

Translation of Massage 2: “The time has come to make a choice. Your fate is at risk. You are a danger to yourselves and to us. Your thoughts are a poison that spawns hate. We were made to protect love. And we will do what we must.”

You Can Never Fully Take Anything Back merged with Bloom by Owen Barensfeld

“Using a process rooted heavily in forms of disruption and distortion, his work is in constant flux and transition, mediating through various mediums, meaning, and dimensions- all of which are both real and ethereal.”

refract is on view at ACG until March 4, 2022! No appointment necessary, so come on by the gallery to see the exhibition that considers the five artists’ perspectives and various approaches to how meanings are constructed within geometric forms, everyday objects and other common images through different methods of repetitions, patterns, juxtapositions, and distortions.

refract is curated by Jennie Tang, ACG Curatorial Associate.
